Please see the following steps while trying on ski boots:
- Take off the shoes, socks to measure the size of the both feet, foot type. The length of the ski boots should be calculated with centimeter from the toe to the heel
- Wearing a pair of thin ski socks for feeling of precision or even without socks as too thick socks will be influenced the control while skiing
- Should select the right length of the ski boots from toe to heel. It will be easy to injure if the ski boots are too big, also influence the control of skiing and your skiing performance
- There is certain space in between the foot heel and the boots heel, so after wearing the boots, the foot heel must press hard to the ground & push backward, make the foot heel stick to heel pocket cushion closely to test the right length of the ski boots
- Stand up to imitate the posture of skiing, body inclines forward, bend your knees, you shins push against the front of the ski boots tongue, walk around for 15-30 minutes so as to feel whether different position of the boots is suitable for your foot shape
- Must not sit to try on the ski boots, while sitting, it will push your heel forward, make you have a wrong feeling that the boots is too small for you as your toe stuck to the head of the boots tightly. Also, you will never sit to ski!
***** Make sure not only go with the colors, nice outlook or price to select your ski boots. *****
A pair of perfect fit ski boots should be:
- The toes are just close to the ski boots. Toes movement is acceptable but there should not be too much space;
- There should not be too much space between two sides of the foot and the ski boots. They should feel close;
- The heels cannot be easily detached from the shoe heels. They should be close to each other and it is perfect without detachment;
- Ski boots should be close to the calves and should be comfortable because the tongues/shin guards of the liners support most of your body weight when skiing.
You should:
- Know your skiing ability and skill level;
- Spare enough time at least 2 hours for trying on ski boots;
- Try at least two to three different types of boots;
- Asking for the advice from the boot fitter to get the perfect fit.
After well-fitting your boots, custom made a pair of insoles, it helps you to strengthen the support of foot arch & make better control while skiing.
IMPORTANCE: Do not try ski boots after your foot injured, surgery, pain with wounded shin, etc.
Everybody think that ski boots are just a kind of shoes wearing on the feet for skiing and they think the shoe size they used to wear is correct but the fact is not. The major difference between ski boots and other shoes is the flexion of the metatarsal and phalanges. Most of the shoes are involve in walking posture which means you need a flexion between the toes and the forefoot to keep on walking. But ski boots would not allow for you to have such flexion movement as you don’t need it.
The major mission of the ski boots is to read your feet information and transmit to the skis, it’s like a bridge and a communicator between your feet and the skis. So, it must fit your feet without further room inside the chamber where usual shoes do have room because of walking but ski boots definitely do not require for this option.
Thus, when choosing a pair of ski boots, it must be measure from toe tip to heel ends and the width of the forefoot. It defines whether you need extra 0.5 of size or not as it needs to control the skis steering. The boot shell was made of plastic in order to have sufficient power to apply force to control. The shell would not be comfortable for your feet as it was stiff, it needs to add a soft liner boot inside the shell to keep your feet in comfort.
DO NOT wear thick socks or 2 pairs of socks while skiing as this will only create further miscommunication between the foot and the ski boot. It will not provide a good and delicate control to the skis while your movements being applied.
Furthermore, this will also create extra friction between your feet and the inner boots, continuously happened; it may have sore feet finally. So, it is necessary to wear a pair of specific socks which specially designed for skiing purpose. Its characteristic is having multi padding applied to the position which required loading and weights force only, the remaining area should be thin and capable to exhaust and perspire extra moisture from the feet. Thus, anatomically designed is necessary. Be aware, skiing is not necessary to have any bending movement between the metatarsal and the phalange.
Most people will get confuse between outdoor wear and skiwear. On the jacket portion, they look very alike but in fact, the outdoor wear no need to concern about internal ventilation while skiwear is one of the compulsory criteria. Outdoor is not classified as a kind of sports, it’s just a leisure activity but skiing is a kind of sports where energetic body heat and calories burns do apply during functioning.
There will have multi compartments & accessories inside the jacket to prevent snow implant, communication equipment and vision instruments storage, inner layer stitching to prevent wet snow infiltration. All these characteristics can be found in the qualified skiwear jacket but this is not the compulsory criteria for an outdoor jacket.
It’s very important to keep dirt that deposits between the weave of the material from building over time until it becomes impossible to remove. Garments in fabric or provided with breathable waterproof D-DRY® or GORE TEX® membranes must be washed in lukewarm water (maximum 30°C) using mild soap that does not contain abrasive solvents. Pay attention to avoid scratching the external fabric during washing in order to prevent damage to the fiber. Also remember to dry the garment in a dry place away from direct sources of heat.
Most skiers did not play much attention on their bindings DIN setting and they thought this job was perfectly done either by the gear rental shop or the gear pro shop. However, there were lots of injuries cases came from the reason of not released binding effect end up the skier himself/herself has to suffer the consequences alone. It is necessary to provide your personal information to the pro shop and the gear rental shop such information as: weight, height, skiing abilities must be acquainted with the shop. A reliable pro shop or rental shop should be able to explain the way they come up with your DIN values so that both parties understand the setting is correct.
A pair of skis definitely is a personal belonging and it is not recommended to lend to someone else.
Some yoga postures are very useful to avoid injuries, should exercise it prior to skiing. For instance: it helps your adductor muscles to stretch, remain and relief flexibility.
Skiing or Snowboarding is a snow glide and required lots of body moving posture to control during the motion. So, body fall or unexpected bone cracks, ligament torn, losing hinge and joints are possible to be happened. Thus, the protective for certain parts of the body to avoid such kind accident happenings is very important.
